Is reclaimed wood suitable for use as a wooden facade?
Yes, reclaimed wood is suitable for use as a wood facade when it is ventilated and mounted on a batten substructure. This construction ensures optimal drying after rain, preventing prolonged moisture exposure.
Reclaimed boards mounted on a south-facing reclaimed wood facade will darken over time due to sunlight and take on a brownish tone. On the north side, where the facade is more exposed to weathering, the surface of the boards will turn grey. If the facade is roofed, the original appearance of the reclaimed boards is largely preserved. In addition, the facade’s color naturally adapts to the surrounding landscape, creating a harmonious aesthetic.
