Which reclaimed beams are available?

Brenners Altholz offers solid reclaimed wood beams in spruce and oak in four sortings – reclaimed rafters, squared timber, old oak beams and wild oak beams – as well as hollow NextBeams profiles (U, L and T shapes, half beams and end beams) that look like a solid beam but are easy to fit to walls and ceilings.

Our classic reclaimed rafters in spruce have an original hewn surface and are brushed by hand. Squared timber Xtrawild is the much more rustic spruce sorting, with discolouration, nail holes, deep cracks and uneven, partly half-round surfaces. Oak comes in the same pair: old oak beams with four original surfaces and few mortise holes, and wild oak beams Xtrawild with strong marks of use and sawing. All beams are sorted, brushed, cleared of visible nails and heat-treated in our own drying plant – without chemicals, authorised by the official plant protection service under ISPM 15 and meeting USDA requirements for export to the USA. Available with or without mortise holes and notches.

The cross-section of the beams is slightly rectangular, around 14x16 cm, not square; thicknesses can vary by +/- 1.5 cm. Many old beams are also tapered: they were hewn with an axe straight from the trunk, which kept the natural taper of the tree, for example from 14x16 to 13x15 cm along the length.

From these beams we saw the NextBeams. The U-shaped BoxedBeam clads steel girders, columns or new timber beams and takes cables, pipes or LED spots. EndBeams and T-Beams finish off or join a wall cladding, eLbowBeams clad corners, and HalfBeams add accents to walls and ceilings where a solid beam would be too heavy. NextBeams are purely cladding elements, not load-bearing, and available in spruce or oak.
