What is wood cladding?
Reclaimed wood claddings consist of historic wooden elements sourced from old stables, farmhouses, and barns. Over decades, sun, wind, and weather have shaped their surfaces, creating a unique sunburnt patina. This results in natural coloring with a mix of warm brown and beige tones, light to dark brown. These natural colors and structures are unmistakable and cannot be replicated by machines.
Our cladding boards are carefully processed and are available either with tongue and groove for a stable connection or trimmed/smooth for a modern look. Through heat treatment according to ISPM 15, they are pest-free and immediately ready for wall and ceiling cladding.
We deliver sunburnt claddings as standard in mixed widths – a natural variation of 7 to 25 cm that creates a lively appearance. Alternatively, we offer fixed widths, where 4 to 6 uniform board widths (e.g. 8, 10, 12 & 14 cm) can be selected. Fixed widths enable uniform, edge-to-edge installation and a harmonious overall appearance.
What can you build with sunburnt cladding?
A sunburnt reclaimed wood cladding is ideal for wall and ceiling cladding, both indoors and outdoors. Its natural patina and structure give rooms a rustic, warm look and create a unique atmosphere. Indoors, reclaimed wood cladding is often used for accent walls or complete wood paneling. Outdoors, it can be used as facade cladding. Thanks to its weather resistance and robust surface, it is a durable and sustainable choice for many construction projects.
Sunburnt reclaimed wood claddings can be processed flexibly and fit into both modern and traditional architectural styles. In combination with other materials such as stone or metal, they create an exciting contrast that enhances the appearance of rooms or facades. Thanks to the natural aging of the wood, the surface remains easy to maintain, and the characteristic patina continues to develop over time. With customized cutting, our visible claddings can be cut to fit precisely, so they integrate perfectly into any project.
How do you install wood wall cladding?
The installation of wood cladding on the wall takes place in two steps: First, a substructure made of wooden battens is fixed to the wall. This must run at a right angle to the later cladding direction. In damp rooms, sufficient rear ventilation is essential, which is ensured by vertical battens.
Once the substructure is finished, the reclaimed wood cladding can be mounted step by step. For horizontal installation, begin either at the ceiling or the floor; for vertical installation, begin in the corner.
Different fastening methods are available:
- Wire nails: discreet and simple fastening
- Angled nailing or screwing: no visible fastening head for a clean look
- Board clips (for tongue & groove): invisible fixing without damaging the wood

Buy reclaimed wood cladding – origin and sustainability
Our reclaimed wood cladding stands for sustainable reuse. Instead of cutting new wood, we use already installed old claddings or saw old posts into new elements with the original surface. This preserves the natural structure while conserving resources.
The wood comes from historic buildings, farmhouses, and barns that were exposed to the elements for decades. This natural aging gives every visible reclaimed wood cladding a unique, distinctive patina that cannot be replicated by machines.
We use only genuine reclaimed wood, whose natural signs of use ensure an authentic appearance. When you buy reclaimed cladding, you choose a high-quality, regional product with history and character.
How Are Wood Claddings Dried?
Our sunburnt claddings are treated in a wood drying chamber, reducing the wood moisture content to 12–14% – an ideal value for high stability and long durability. The treatment complies with the ISPM 15 standard and guarantees reliable pest-free quality. This ensures that when you buy visible cladding, each element is delivered completely free from pests.
Wood reacts to fluctuations in air humidity with natural shrinkage and expansion. This can result in cracks or slight shape changes. These are characteristic of claddings made from old wood and do not represent a defect. Thanks to drying chamber treatment, the original rustic appearance is preserved while the reclaimed wood remains durable and resistant.
How to Care for Reclaimed Wood Cladding?
Brushed reclaimed wood cladding with its original sunburnt surface is extremely low-maintenance and durable. It requires no special upkeep and retains its natural look without additional effort.
For cleaning, it is sufficient to occasionally wipe the surface with a slightly damp cloth. This simple measure keeps each cladding clean and supports its long-term preservation. Thanks to its robustness and minimal maintenance requirements, it is ideal for both indoor and outdoor use.
Important Product Note:
When you buy old wood cladding, you are acquiring a living natural product. Even after installation, it continues to respond to its environment. Fluctuations in air humidity can cause natural shrinkage or expansion. These characteristics are typical for wood and do not represent a defect. As this is genuine reclaimed wood, the boards may vary in dimensions, colors, and structures. Nail holes, cracks, discolorations, and other signs of use are characteristic of reclaimed wood and emphasize its unique charm. During processing, small wood splinters may come loose – therefore caution is recommended when working with it.
